Research and Social Sciences

Aims:

To develop a critical awareness of the relevance of research and social science within psychotherapy.  With particular reference to psychotherapy:

Approaches to research and their strengths and weaknesses.

Social theory paradigms

Assessment of the impact of interventions.

Social control.

Gender differences.

Cultural differences.   

Philosophy of human nature and ethics.

                       

 

Outcomes for this module are:

Through the development of beliefs, capabilities and behaviours to form a critical approach to the conduct of a research study, the collation of the data from a research study, and the analysis of study data to enable valid conclusions, and informed decisions to be made.

The demonstration of confidence, knowledge and understanding in creating a research study in relation to a selection of psychological, social and cultural models, processes and issues.

The demonstration of confidence, knowledge and understanding of key concepts in social science, particularly in relation to psychological, social and cultural models, processes and issues with respect to research.
