Accreditation
Q: With the investment for the programme, in terms of time and money, what is the guarantee of success ?
A: As with psychotherapy there is an element of risk in undertaking any programme like this. However, I developed this programme whilst I was Chair of NLPtCA particularly from the comments that I was getting from members about accreditation. Also, a lot of the NLPters I was meeting had little idea about the wider world of psychotherapy. My work at UKCP brought me into contact with many other therapists and thus gave me wider view as to what would be expected. If you fulfil the requirements of the programme then the chances of you gaining a successful accreditation are high. I will let you know if I have any cause for concern about your work as soon as I come to that conclusion. I will also suggested what you need to do to bring you up to the required standard.
I will be quite happy to re-format the programme in order to have the best guarantee of success along another path as the requirements change and/or other pathways open up.

Q: How do I identify what I need to be accredited?
A: You will need to be able to make a judgement between what are your existing skills and experience and how these compare to the requirements laid down by both the UKCP, the Constructivist College and relevant member organsations other accrediting organisations.
We have prepared a check list that we hope will make this job easier. You can download this document here. Its best to complete this first as best you can before you contact us so that you are as clear as you can be about your needs.

Attendance
Q. I have the opportunity to spend some time out of the country or I am busy for some of the time. Is there any way of working around this?
A. The programme will be run most years depending on participants. If you are away frequently then that is something that I am happy to negotiate. I would like such agreements to be few and far between as I have trained on programmes where almost every weekend brought new participants from a previous year and the balance of the programme was upset. More importantly I was unable to have enough experience of these participants to form any useful relationship from which to be able to write a reference or accreditation report.

Client Hours
Q. How many hours of client contact do I need to be accredited ?
A. Plase check with your accrediting orgaisation as this can change over the years.
If you do not have any client hours or the hours that you do not have are not supervised then our suggestion is that you offer your services to a local voluntary counselling group. Here you will meet other counsellors and you may get free or low cost supervision.

Clinical Placement
Q: What is the nature of the Clinical Placement ?
A: The clinical placement is a bit of a vague item. The ideal is a week's work in an NHS Mental Health facility. However, that is I think a very long shot and unlikely to happen. I would suggest work through the length of the programme for a voluntary counselling organisation. With a good voluntary organisation they will have training courses and access to either the NHS or GPs and that experience would be acceptable.
You would also get extra supervision that would probably be free as well as exposure to many other therapeutic models. You may also have to explain and perhaps even defend the NLPt way of working and that's always a good experience to have.

NLP Training
Q: Are previous NLP practitioner or master practitioner trainings suitable for recognition for entry on to the UKCP register ?
A: The process for accrediting NLP and NLPt trainings as suitable for UKCP recognition is a new one. Therefore there are many kinds of NLP training of which some are more appropriate than others. There are other programmes as well and you will need to check each individual course with the your accrediting organsation to check its status.
It is well to note here that ANLP accreditation only is not sufficient for this programme.
